The Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) and the Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF) co-organised an Africa-Europe high-level policymaker meeting to foster cross-continental partnership on 20 March 2024 at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD). The discussion focused on “Fostering Africa-Europe energy cooperation: Implementing commitments and realising Africa’s energy transformation”.

The 13th AEEP Energy Talks will addresses the unique energy challenges of African Island States (AIS), which rely heavily on costly fossil fuel imports due to their isolation from the continental energy grid. The webinar will delve into the current energy landscape of African Island States, their challenges, and the transformative potential of renewable energy. It will also examine Africa-Europe collaboration for innovative financing solutions, drawing on experiences from European island states, with the goal of paving the way for a greener, more sustainable energy future for AIS.

Capacitating Joint Action
The 28th Annual United Nations Framework for Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December saw intense discussions about the future of energy in Africa, Europe and around the globe. Especially the third day of events, 2 December, saw several commitments related to the energy transition, renewables, and Sustainable Development Goal 7.
